The Jade Garden is drawn from the oldest tradition of decorative art - the Mughal garden painting, where nature is arranged not as it grows but as it ought to be: tigers resting at the water's edge, spotted deer mid-leap between flowering trees, a peacock spreading its tail beside a lotus pond, swans drifting in silence, a rhinoceros moving quietly through the undergrowth as if it has always belonged there. All of it rendered in the muted tones of aged celadon and warm ivory, framed within a lacquered bamboo border topped with a jade-green pagoda finial.
